Dental Crowns To Preserve Your Tooth Following a Root Canal

After root canal treatment, a dental crown is usually recommended to protect the treated tooth. Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp from inside the tooth, leaving the tooth more brittle and susceptible to fracture. A dental crown restores the tooth's strength and function, protects it from further damage, and restores its appearance. Crowns are particularly important for back teeth that bear the force of chewing. Without a crown, a root-canaled tooth is more likely to crack and eventually require extraction. The crown also seals the tooth to prevent reinfection.
