What is emergency dentistry?

Emergency dentistry provides urgent care when you need it most. Whether it’s a sudden toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or an injury to your gums, we’re here to help. Many patients tell us they’ve had to wait weeks or even months for care elsewhere — but at Rohrbach Family Dental, we have three providers and typically offer same-day appointments so you don’t have to wait in pain. Our team responds quickly, gently, and thoroughly to get you relief and peace of mind. We’ll explain what’s happening and guide you through your next steps with clear, compassionate care.

The emergency dentistry treatment process

1
Call our office

When a dental emergency strikes, call us right away. We’ll help you determine the urgency and schedule you as soon as possible, often the same day.

2
Come in for an exam

During your visit, we’ll perform a focused exam to assess the issue and relieve any immediate discomfort. We may take x-rays to understand the full scope of the problem.

3
Provide urgent treatment

If possible, we’ll treat the issue that same day to ease pain and prevent further damage. Our approach is always gentle, clear, and customized to your needs.

4
Plan for follow-up care

Once the emergency is under control, we’ll outline any additional treatment you might need. We’ll make sure you understand your options and feel confident moving forward.

Frequently asked questions

I’m an existing patient and have a dental emergency outside of office hours. What should I do?

Please leave a message for our on-call dental team at (610) 323-6086. A member of the team will call you back as soon as possible to provide guidance and support.

What qualifies as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency includes issues like severe tooth pain, knocked-out or broken teeth, bleeding that won’t stop, or swelling in the gums, face, or jaw. If something doesn’t feel right or is causing you distress, it’s always best to give us a call. We can help determine whether you need immediate care or can wait for a regular appointment. Acting quickly often makes a big difference in preserving your smile and your peace of mind.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Try to handle the tooth by the crown (not the root). If possible, place the tooth back in its socket or store it in a container of milk. Call us immediately–the sooner we can see you, the better the chance of saving the tooth. Time is critical, so don’t delay giving us a call. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

Can I go to the ER for a dental emergency?

Hospital emergency rooms aren’t equipped to treat dental problems unless they involve severe trauma or infection. For most dental emergencies, it’s best to contact a dentist directly. At Rohrbach Family Dental, we’re experienced in urgent care and can often see you the same day. You’ll get more specific care for your issue and a better long-term outcome by coming to a dental practice.
