Fix a Gummy Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry

A gummy smile shows more gum above the teeth than usual, causing the teeth to appear too short. A gummy smile typically shows four or more millimeters of gum tissue. Causes include excessive gum tissue, small teeth, a hyperactive upper lip, or a short upper lip. Treatments include laser gum contouring, crown lengthening, Botox injections to limit lip movement, or orthodontic treatment. The most common cosmetic treatment is gum contouring using a dental laser, which reshapes the gum line to expose more tooth surface. Recovery is quick, and results are immediate.
