General Dentistry Tips for Dealing With a Loose Tooth

A loose tooth is not something that anyone wants to deal with as an adult. Adult teeth can become loose as a result of an infection in the oral cavity, injury, or advanced gum disease. The treatment depends on the cause of the looseness. If gum disease is the culprit, a deep cleaning and improved oral hygiene may stabilize the tooth. If trauma is the cause, splinting the loose tooth to neighboring teeth can allow it to heal. A night guard may be recommended if grinding is contributing to the problem. In some cases, bone grafting or periodontal surgery may be needed. If the tooth cannot be saved, extraction followed by an appropriate replacement is recommended.
