How Emergency Dentistry Can Treat a Tooth Avulsion

Seeking an emergency dentistry solution to tooth avulsion must happen right away. A tooth avulsion is when a tooth is completely knocked out of its socket. The best chance for saving the tooth is to replant it within 30 to 60 minutes. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it with water but do not scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if possible. If not, store it in milk or between the cheek and gum while traveling to the dentist. The emergency dentist will clean the socket, replant the tooth, and splint it to neighboring teeth for stabilization. A root canal may be needed afterward to save the tooth.
